KATHMANDU, Aug 19: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli spent around two hours this morning interacting with the National Women’s Volleyball team.

The discussions primarily focused on the achievements made so far in women’s volleyball, the need for additional infrastructural development, and ways to secure more successes for Nepal in international competitions.

"This is probably the first time we have had the opportunity to share breakfast and have a close interaction with the head of the government at the Prime Minister's official residence, Baluwatar," the squad said.

The team comprised head coach Jagadish Prasad Bhatta, captain Aruna Shahi, Nepal Volleyball Association’s Chair Jitendra Bahadur Chand, and player Saraswoti Chaudhary.

The Prime Minister explained that he could not attend the final match of the recent CAVA Women’s Nations Volleyball Tournament due to an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers.

He assured the team that he is well aware of the aspirations, concerns, and demands of Nepali women players and other athletes.

The PM also reminded them of the government’s decision to honor the Nepali women’s volleyball team, which clinched silver in the tournament, with a cash prize of Rs 300,000 each.

The team expressed gratitude to the government for its decision to recognize their achievement in the tournament.

"The government does not have sufficient funds in the State coffers, but we will do everything necessary to promote volleyball," he said, expressing hope that the team will further improve its performance in international competitions.

The prime minister also committed to building a volleyball hall of international standards.

Recalling his earlier meeting with members of the Russian women’s volleyball team, the Prime Minister said that the Russian team praised the performance of the Nepali team and suggested that it has immense potential for the future.
