KATHMANDU, Nov 11: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the campaign waged against social ills by national luminary and social reformer Phalgunanda are still remembered even today.
In a message today on the occasion of the 134th birth anniversary of Phalgunanda, the PM said that the declarations issued by Phalgunanda for social reforms are equally relevant even at present. “The declaration has made a huge contribution for our social reforms,” the PM said in his message.
The PM has praised the contributions of Phalgunanda and his continuous efforts for the cause of social reforms in the society where he was born and brought up.

The non-violence campaign of Phalgunanda has also made vital contributions to maintain peace in the society, reads the PM’s message.
Likewise, PM Oli has also praised researches and studies of Phalgunanda for the publicity of Kirat religion, literature and others.
Phalgunanda was born on November 10, 1885 (Kartik 25, 1942 BS) in Chukchinamba of Ibhang -5, Ilam to Hansamati Limbu and Jaganbaj Limbu. He was the third son of the Limbu couple. He had died on April 4, 1949 (Chaita 22, 2005 BS).
He was highly respected and remembered for his outstanding contributions in bringing the social reforms at the time. The Kirat people especially of eastern Nepal celebrate the 25th Kattik in the Nepali calendar every year as the Phalugananda Jayanti. The government had in 2009 declared him the national luminary. He is the 16th national luminary of Nepal. A commemorative postage stamp is being issued in his honour. RSS
