PM directs Health Minister to contain epidemic

KATHMANDU, April 23: Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Thursday directed Minister for Health Khagaraj Adhikari to leave no stones unturned to control the seasonal flu epidemic in Jajarkot and other districts.

According to PM’s personal secretariat, PM Koirala, currently in Jakarta, telephoned minister Adhikari, and directed to that end.


Minister Adhikari briefed the PM on attempts made so far to contain the epidemic, PM's Press Coordinator Prakash Adhikari said in a statement.

Earlier, PM Koirala had summoned Minister of Health and Population Khagaraj Adhikari, Health Secretary Shanta Bahadur Shrestha, Director General at the Department of Health Services Dr Senendra Upreti and Director at Epidemiology and Disease Control Division Baburam Marasini and directed them to carry out works of treatment and control of outbreak of seasonal flu on war footing.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary and Health Secretary Shanta Bahadur Shrestha are leaving for Jajarkot to take stock of health conditions of the patients and attempts to control the outbreak.



The deadly flu has already claimed 28 lives and infected thousands of locals in Jajarkot and neighboring districts.
