Maoist Center’s Central Committee meeting to start from today
KATHMANDU, August 2: The meeting of the Central Committee (CC) of the ruling Maoist Center will be held in Kathmandu from today. It is expected that the CC meeting to be held at Pragya Bhawan in Kamaladi, Kathmandu will decide the date of the party's statute convention as well as the merger with the two parties led by Baburam Bhattarai and Netra Bikram Chand, respectively.
Although initially it was said to hold a special convention, the Maoist Center revised the plan and prepared to hold a statute convention in November. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also the party chairman, is preparing to become more powerful by bringing former party leaders Bhattarai and Chand to the Maoist Center. Sources claim that Dahal, who is in the strategy of remaining in the leadership of the party for some time, is in favor of directing the next leadership to Chand.
Sources claim that Dahal, who is playing in the competition between Barshaman Pun and Janardhan Sharma, who are aspirants for leadership, is in favor of weakening them further. He came to the conclusion that Dahal has taken advantage of the internal competition between the two leaders, and it is claimed by those close to them that both leaders are now preparing to oppose Dahal.
Stating that both of them are active in stopping Dahal's strategy of bringing Baburam and Chand into the party, a leader said, “If PM Dahal does not leave the leadership for some time, they have reached to the point where they think they should get along.”

Sources claim that both leaders are trying to prevent Chand from coming to the party and that they did not mention the matter of party integration in the report to be submitted to the party’s CC meeting. Sources close to Dahal claimed that whenever Chairman Dahal wants, he will bring the leaders including Chand to the Maoist Center with important responsibilities.
A source close to Dahal said that the Chand-led party is ready to merge with the Maoist Center. "I don't know what and why the chairman is delaying. But, one day the party led by Chand will come for party unity.”
According to sources, the leaders of the CPN (Maoist) led by Netra Bikram Chand are waiting for the decision of the Central Committee meeting including the leaders of the Maoist Center Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Pampha Bhusal, Dev Prasad Gurung.
It is said that the meeting of the Chand-led party, which will be held after the Maoist Center CC meeting, will reach a decision on the issue of integration. On the other hand, the Nepal Samajwadi Party led by Baburam Bhattarai has put forward a nine-point proposal for party unity with the Maoist center. The committee formed under the chairmanship of Ganga Narayan Shrestha has submitted a proposal for unity with the Maoist center. Sources claim that it will be discussed in the Maoist meeting on the same basis.
As a senior leader of the party, Dahal is said to be positive about bringing Bhattarai to the Maoist Center. Bhattarai proposed that the current name should be changed and the word ‘communist’ should be removed from the party’s name. However, Dahal is not ready for that. And, without uniting the party, the leaders including Shrestha said that they cannot support Bhattarai. Sources claim that Bhattarai is under more pressure due to this.
Janardan Sharma and Barshman Pun were delaying the nomination of office-bearers showing their strength. However, sources claim that Dahal was shocked when Janardan and Barshaman proposed to make one of them the party’s General Secretary. Showing the conflict between them, Dahal brought Devprasad Gurung as the powerful General Secretary of the party in June 2022. Shakti Bahadur Basnet and Pampha Bhusal were also aspirants for the post of General Secretary.
