KATHMANDU, Jan 31: An inferno has caught Phulchowki forest in south-western part of Kathmandu Valley starting Friday night, according to police.

The Phulchowki hill – the highest hill in Kathmandu Valley – has towers of Nepal Telecom, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Nepal Television and Radio Nepal.

According to Superintendent of Police Kedar Man Bhandari, chief of Metropolitan Police Range Office, Lalitpur, a team of 15 police personnel from Lalitpur Badegaun has been sent to douse the fire on Saturday morning. Nepal Telecom has also sent a fire fighting squad to extinguish the fire.

"We are told that the fire has not spread near the towers and that it would not cause any harm there immediately," said Bhandari. "A fire fighting team of Nepal Army is also mobilized to the inferno site to tame the flaring fire."
