Pariyar clinches Dharmashree title

KATHMANDU, Sept 19: Lokendra Pariyar of Muscle World Gym clinched the title of 12th Dharmashree Nation-wide Bodybuilding Championship on Monday.



Pariyar of heavyweight category came ahead of Naresh Diwakar, Sachit Pradhan, Shyam Shrestha, Sanjeev Kumar Shrestha and Maheshwor Maharjan in the overall championship.[break]



Shyam Shrestha of Nepal Byayam Mandir, Sachit Pradhan of Kalimati Friendship Gym, Sanjeev Kumar Shrestha of Nepal Byayam Mandir, Maheshwor Maharjan of Universal Gym and Naresh Diwakar of Active Physical Fitness secured second to sixth positions in overall respectively.



Champion Pariyar bagged a purse of Rs 150,000, trophy and certificate. Similarly, second to sixth placed bodybuilders received cash prizes of Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000, Rs 40,000, Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.



Pariyar toppled defending champion Sanu Gurung in the group round of heavyweight category. Following the result, defeated Gurung created ugly scene in the hall. Gurung and his supporters tried to vandalize the stage and the hall but the security personnel deployed at the Nepal Academy Hall took the situation under control.



For the overall championship, Naresh Diwakar qualified as the winner of the 55 kg, and Sachit Pradhan and Shyam Shrestha as the winners of 60 kg and 65 kg respectively. Sanjeev Kumar Shrestha won in the 70 kg while Maharjan had secured first position in the 75 kg category for their qualification.



Bodybuilder Puroshattam Prajapati Shaukhala who has a polio defect also exhibited during the championship. Along with Shaukhala´s performance, Harish Shrestha, former champion, displayed comedy dance performance.



Diwakar had finished ahead of Sudan Tamang from Nepal Byayam Mandir and Bikash Yadav from Royal Fitness Kirtipur in the 55 kg weight category. Tamang received Rs 10, 000 as the runner-up while Yadav pursed Rs 5,000.







In the 60 kg weight category, Gyan Narayan Maharjan and Ram Hari Khanal secured second and third positions respectively. They received Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.



Prakash Chuyal and Devendra Bajracharya finished in the second and the third position of 65 kg weight category coming behind Shyam Shrestha.



The jury members faced difficulty in selecting the winner of this weight category and the bodybuilders were again asked to exhibit seven different poses.







In 70 kg weight category, Arjun Barnalal and Mukti Raj Rai satisfied in the second and the third position as Sanjeev Kumar Shrestha came in the first position. Barnalal and Rai got Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.



Similarly, Kiran Shrestha finished second and Biru Maharjan satisfied for third position in the 75 kg weight category. They received Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively as Maheshwor Maharjan claimed the first spot. In the heavyweight category, Sanu Gurung and Bimal Jung Shahi finished in second and the third places. Gurung and Shahi were awarded with Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively.
