KATHMANDU, Nov 30: It is revealed that parents of a teenager were involved in murdering her in the name of prestige and honor in the society.

An 18-year-old girl named Amrita Kumari Shah was killed by her parents at Madhavnarayan Municipality-7 in Rautahat district to “save the prestige” of the family, according to police.

According to the District Police Office, Rautahat, Ram Ayodhya Sah Teli and his wife Sita Devi Shah planned Amrita’s murder. Amrita was shot dead at Laukaha of Madhav Narayan Municipality on the late night of November 11.

In connection with the incident, police have also arrested another five individuals from Rautahat.

Organizing a press meet, the District Police Office said that Amrita was in a relationship with Sosindra Paswan, 30, since a few years ago. “However, her parents forced Amrita to marry Rupesh Shah a year ago. Then, Amrita and her boyfriend attacked Rupesh,” said police.

After the attack, Rupesh and Amrita divorced, but the love affair between Amrita and Paswan continued against the will of her parents. Amrita then started living in her paternal home.

Following the attack, Rupesh filed a case against Amrita and her boyfriend. “To save the prestige in the society, her parents killed Amrita. Parents thought that their prestige would end if Amrita is arrested for attacking Rupesh,” said police.

The Rautahat District Court has already remanded the arrested to custody for seven days for further investigation into the case.
