Pak embassy marks Defence and Martyrs Day of Pakistan with special function

KATHMANDU, Sept 7: Defence and Martyrs Day of Pakistan was commemorated in Kathmandu with a reception hosted on Friday.


The Officiating Chief of Army Staff of the Nepali Army, Ashok Raj Sigdel, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Senior Nepali military and civil officials, ambassadors, retired senior army officers, including former Chiefs of Army Staff, members of academia, the diplomatic corps, defense attachés, UN agencies, media personnel, and the Pakistani community attended the reception.

In his remarks, Officiating Chief of Army Staff Sigdel emphasized that Pakistan and Nepal share multifaceted bilateral relations, including in the areas of economics, commerce, education, technical assistance, and military cooperation. He also praised the assistance provided by Pakistan, especially during crises, noting that it has contributed to the capacity building of Nepali institutions. Sigdel expressed his hope for the continued cordial and friendly relations between the two countries.


The Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal, Abrar H. Hashmi, highlighted the significance of the day and paid tribute to the sacrifices of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and Pakistani citizens who gave their lives to protect the motherland and ensure peace and stability in the country.


Ambassador Hashmi reiterated Pakistan's steadfast commitment to peace and stability in the region, noting its significant role in the global fight against terrorism and in United Nations Peacekeeping Missions. However, he affirmed that Pakistan will never compromise on its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity in the face of challenges. He acknowledged the nation's unity with its brave soldiers, pilots, and sailors, who have defended the country and made the ultimate sacrifice, from wars to fighting the scourge of terrorism.


Col Muhammad Ali Alvi, Defence Attaché, spoke about the importance of Defence and Martyrs Day and the contributions of Pakistan's Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies to the defense of Pakistan and global peace. He also highlighted the strong military ties between the two brotherly countries, guided by a shared vision of achieving peace and stability in the region.


Documentaries about Pakistan’s armed forces, defense production, and culture were also screened during the event.
