PAC directs House not to strike new deal with West Seti Hydro

KATHMANDU, July 30: The Public Account Committee (PAC) of the Legislature Parliament directed the Ministry of Energy not to strike any deal with the West Seti Hydro. The hydel once operational is expected to generate 750 megawatt electricity.[break]



The Committee has asked the ministry to provide details of latest activities and agreements reached with the project, according to Som Bahadur Thapa, secretary of the Committee.



The PAC also directed the concerned authorities not to enter into a new agreement with the project until the Committee completes its study the project.



The committee has launched an investigation into the alleged irregularities in the project. The project´s agreement with the government will expire in December.



The committee members are planning to summon the minister for energy next week, according to Thapa.



CDB earns Rs 13.4 million as profit



Country Development Bank (CDB) has earned Rs 13.4 million as operating profit during the 2008/09 fiscal year.



Issuing a press release on Thursday, the bank said it collected a deposit of Rs 623.9 million and issued loan amounting to Rs 624.9 million by the end of the fiscal year.



The bank said its non-performing asset stands at nil. The Banepa-based bank is planning to open branches in Birgunj, Butwal, Narayanghat and Sindhuli.



Likewise, the bank has also set a target of increasing its total paid-up capital to Rs 320 million by the end of current fiscal year.



Smart Foods launch YumYum



Smart Food and Snacks, an ISO 9001:2008 certified company, is launching YumYum, one of the most favorite and popular noodle brands, in Nepali market.



This noodle is produced in a state-of-art production plant in Chitwan with direct technical supervision from Wan Thai Foods Industry, Thailand, states a press release issued by the company on Thursday.



“YumYum noodle has all important vitamins and minerals required in a balanced meal and the packaging of this noodle is designed to maintain freshness of the product,” adds the release.



Global Bank open new ATM



Global Bank Limited has installed an automated teller machine (ATM) in Tripureshwar.



The ATM kiosk was inaugurated by Pushpa Man Shrestha, one of the promoters of the bank, on Thursday, states a press release issued by the bank.



This is the bank´s 24th ATM.



Since its establishment two and half years ago, the bank has expanded its network to Kantipath, New Road, Bouddha, Gyaneshwar, Kirtipur and Kuleshwar in Kathmandu. The bank also has its branches in Birgunj, Narayanghat, Butwal, Pokhara, Baglung, Lahan, Biratnagar, Lamki, Nepalgunj, Gaighat and Dadeldhura.



The bank is planning to open new branches in Lagankhel and Dhapasi in Kathmandu valley and Dhulabari, which will also have ATMs, states the release. The bank will also install ATMs in Gaighat and Chhetrapati branches.
