TULASIPUR (Dang), April 3: More than eight thousand children of the school-going age are deprived of education in Dang district, despite the ongoing school enrollment campaign launched by the District Education Office here.

This number of children in the district remaining out of school indicates that the school enrollment campaign launched by the government has not become effective and the millions of rupees spent on it has gone down the drain.

Om Prakash Neupane, Chief of the Planning Division at the District Education Office, Dang said that the number of children five to 15 years of age who are not attending schools stands at eight thousand one hundred and nineteen which is four per cent of the total population of children of school-going age in the district.

Neupane said although various measures have been adopted to get these children enrolled in schools, these were not very effective. The largest number of children of school-going age that is out of school is in Ghorahi Municipality, at the Gobardiha VDC, at Duruwa VDC and at Lalmatiya VDC. The number of children who are out of school in these areas is one thousand and ninety-three, one thousand and twenty-three, nine hundred and eighty-eight and seven hundred and ninety-three, respectively.
