Altogether five RRTs have been deployed to cull the chickens in Sharanamati VDC-2 from Sunday morning. Each RRT consists of nine members.

Dr Hari Dahal, spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoAC), said they plan to cull some 10,000 chickens in the area lying between Biring Khola in the east, Tangdabba VDC in the west, Ruimari area in the north and Meche Tole in the south.

Dahal said all five RRTs deployed in the area have been working since the morning. "I was told that 865 chickens were culled by this afternoon," he said. "The number of culling has already crossed over 1,000."

He said the team plans to finish culling the chickens in the area within a week.

Officials at the MoAC said locals are cooperating with the RRTs, and that there are also police present to assist with the situation.

A fresh outbreak of bird flu was detected in another village in Jhapa district on Friday. Earlier, the government had declared Mechinagar Municipality in the district "bird-flu affected area" after detecting cases on January 16. The government had said situation was under control in the first week of February.
