Talking to journalists at a function organized to hand over memorandum to press the Maoist party to hold meaningful dialogue for peace and new constitution, Chairman Dahal said the country witnessed political deadlock as other political parties are obsessed with the idea of "cutting the Maoists down to size" against democratic norms and values.
Dahal said that UCPN (Maoist) despite being the largest political party in parliament was denied the right to head the government. “It is not good to suggest that the Maoists do this and that,” he added.
Dahal argued that the decision of the party´s central committee on Friday to endorse his political paper had created conducive environment to resolve the current political deadlock. He said that there is no alternative to forging consensus among parties to ensure peace and new constitution.
He said the big three parties will hold dialogue soon to resolve the deadlock. “A package deal must be reached among political parties to bail the country out of the current deadlock,” he said. “Other parties too should stop thinking that the onus of ending the deadlock lies with the Maoists alone.”
Chairman Dahal also said that there have been significant achievements in the peace process and constitution drafting. “We are committed to bringing the peace process to a logical end,” he said. “We have said that we are ready to bring the combatants under the command of the secretariat through a formal announcement,” he said.
