Let’s go organic
According to the Market Management Committee, the objective of the fair was to promote and motivate farmers involved in organic farming as well as to boost domestic production in order to meet the consumers’ demand.
Farmers at the fair were excited to see an overwhelming turnout of customers. They expressed happiness that their produces were being marketed and receiving positive response from the consumers. They also suggest the stakeholders concerned to give continuity such fairs.
“The four-hour long fair earned the participating farmers a total of approximately Rs 43,000,” shared Vice-chairperson of the committee, Subekshya Adhikari.
The fair had different stalls that sold green veggies, gundruk, nettle tea, organic coal, home-made chocolate and other organic as well as homemade products. “Consumers these days have become conscious about their food and health. They’ve understood that organic products are good for health though it could be slightly expensive,” said Adhikari.
“This kind of market will give justice to the farmers’ investment and labor. Nevertheless, it should be sustainable and continuous,” said a participating farmer at the fair.
