Ashoka Fellow Anil Chitrakar signs a copy of his book, ‘Take the Lead’ at the book launching ceremony held at the Bhrikutimandap in Exhibition Road on Sunday.
Spread across eight chapters, the book, in Chitrakar’s own words, delivers a different perspective of looking at Nepal, than the one that we’ve been used to, a perspective which sees situations and circumstances as assets and not liabilities.
After the official launch of the book by Mega Bank CEO Shah, the launch delved into an informal interaction followed by book-signing, during which Chitrakar made a point to sign each book with the namesake message, perhaps urging readers to not only read through the book but also to act.
“Change can happen only when the ordinary takes the lead,” Chitrakar emphasizes. And this book aims to inspire everyone to do that.
The book is priced at Rs 299 and can be found at major bookstores in town. A Nepali version of the book as well as an illustrated Nepali workbook of ‘Take the Lead’ will also be available in the market soon.
Writing the talk
What inspired you to write the book?
The country is at a crossroad right now. Keeping in mind the context, I wrote this book in hopes that readers will be able to overcome apathy, which is the biggest enemy for every country.
Writing this book in three and a half months must have been challenging.
After writing this book, I’ve come to know that writing a book isn’t easy. A 1,000 word piece article, I can write but when it comes to a whole book, there are other things one has to keep in mind.
What next in terms of writing?
Hopefully, this is a beginning, a conversation starter. Now, the next step is to take the conversation and distill it.
