One arrested over NMB bank looting, search for others intensified

JALESHWOR, July 27: An Indian national charged with involvement in a bank robbery has been arrested.


He is Ajay Kumar Safi, 20, of Bihar. He was allegedly part of a group that on May 30 looted the NMB Bank based in Mahottari rural municipality-2 in Mahottari and made away with Rs 1.5 million.


 He was apprehended on Wednesday evening near the Nepal-India border at Matihani-8, confirmed Deputy Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar Giri, the spokesperson for the District Police Office in Mahottari.

A masked gang of four to five who arrived on stolen motorcycles looted the bank by taking bank employees and customers captive.


Since the day of the crime took place, police have been searching for the gang with the help of human Nepal Police specialized agency, trans-national coordination and the technology.   


Furthermore, police have identified the other accused in the crime and are intensely searching for them. Police hope that they will be arrested soon, police inspector Prakash Malla said.
