How did your interest in radio begin?
Radio jockeying was something that I wanted to try at one point in my life. But Gopi Krishna FM happened to me by chance when a friend of mine told me about a vacancy that was open there. I had no prior training to be an RJ but just decided to give it a try. I passed the voice test and after a month of proper trainings, I started doing programs.[break]
What were your personal achievements while working as an RJ?
I met a lot of people and developed my speaking skills. I also was able to do emceeing in different programs and events.
I had some loyal ‘fans’, some of whom would even come to meet me in person at the radio station and would always ask about me if I was absent at any of my shows.
Share with us, your experiencing while doing your first show.
I was very nervous, so nervous that I was blushing. I can never forget the first few minutes of my first show. I rehearsed my show opening all night. Thank fully, I had a very helpful technician assisting and helping me.
What are some of the qualities of a good RJ, according to you?
Just because someone is talkative doesn’t necessarily mean that that person will be a good RJ. Radio Jockeying isn’t just about speaking behind a microphone. As an RJ, a person has to be friendly, fluent in the language and should also have a lot of general knowledge so that they can talk about anything and get the conversations with callers going.
Do you think this is the profession for you?
While working at the radio, I enjoyed what I did and I got more interested. I plan to continue radio jockeying as a part-time profession. However, I also want to try out other fields as well. For the past couple of months, I’ve really been interested in primary level teaching.
