KATHMANDU, April 22: Amid the widening intraparty rift within the ruling CPN-UML, the party’s Chairman KP Sharma Oli and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal met at a hotel in the capital on Thursday in what is said to be the ‘last ditch effort’ to save party unity.
Surya Thapa, PM Oli’s press aide, posting a photo on Twitter earlier today, wrote that the leaders duo were observing the under-construction Dharahara tower from the meeting hall of the Nag Pokhari-based Marriott Hotel.
A similar meeting between Oli and Nepal was also held on Wednesday. Sources said Oli asked Nepal to return to the party and carry out party activities as usual. He, however, reiterated his stance that he is not in favor of dealing with leaders “on the basis of a factional group”.
