In coordination with The Saraf Foundation, The Taragaon Museum is organizing a photo exhibition titled ‘Nepal Then’ at its premise located at Boudha. The exhibition started on Wednesday.
The exhibition has the pictures of Nepal taken by the Dutch artist, Ed Van der Kooy during his visit in 1978. In a press statement released by The Taragaon Museum, the artist explains how he fell in love with Nepal on his first visit in 1978.

“I was a student at the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague, Holland. I had heard about Nepal. So, without any knowledge, I flew to Kathmandu. I stayed here for a month. A small city with a lot of temples, mountains on the horizon and all the friendly people,” the artist said. “I did the Annapurna trek and it was so beautiful. I fell in love with this country. And after 1978, I came here every year.”
Now 40 years since his first visit, Ed Van der Kooy has collected two painted large panoramas, a film he made in 1978 and the pictures from that year. He will also be donating some pictures to the museum, The Taragaon said.
The exhibition will go until next Saturday.
