KATHMANDU, Dec 24: Today's meeting of the Women and Social Committee under the Federal Parliament, House of Representatives, has given a string of instructions to the line agencies, including the National Women Commission (NWC) to step up its role in controlling the gender-based violence (GBV).
In a meeting held at Singha Durbar today, the Committee asked the NWC to increase its activeness in curbing the GBV given the growing cases of GBV in the country lately.

Niru Pal, the Committee's President, shared that instructions were given to Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens and NWC to streamline the gender policy, and to revise the women-centric older laws and policies to make them friendly to federal set-up implemented in the country.
Pressing for a regulation for effective enforcement of the Women Commission Act-2074, the Committee has also instructed the line agencies to formulate the regulation and implement the Act at the earliest.
Furthermore, the NWC has been asked to put in place the provisions to set up province offices in all seven provinces in this fiscal year.
Members of the Committee Laxmi Pariyar, Ganga Chaudhary and Hira Gurung univocally underscored the effective implementation of the laws and awareness drive to end GBV.
On the occasion, NWC's Secretary Anil Kumar Thakur briefed the meeting about the works of the Commission.
