Because of this, NT's telephone number inquiry service (197), telephone repair service (198 and 1498), and emergency number (1234) are not functioning properly. The earthquake of April 25 and aftershocks thereafter have damaged some pillars and beams of the buildings.
Employees have not returned to work after China Town Shopping Complex Business Association on Monday asked tenants to vacate the building to pave way for the management to start repair works.
"Despite knowing that the building is unsafe, the management has been requested us to continue our work," an employee of Cybernetics told Republica.
Niranjan Khanal, director of Cybernetics, said only two out of 108 pillars of the building have been damaged. He said the association has only asked tenants to be alert as there is nothing to be afraid about. "We have taken the responsibility of providing emergency service, it should not be halted. We called employees to work here as we have not been able to find new place to relocate our office," Khanal said, adding that the service was disturbed as only few staff agreed to work.
The employees say that they are ready to work in tents but not in the damaged building. "We know that our works should not be disrupted. But we cannot work in damaged building," the employee said, requesting anonymity.
Around 250 people are working with Cybernetics.
China Town Shopping Complex Business Association has closed the complex for public since Tuesday.
Engineers, who assessed the building, have suggested repairing all damaged pillar in the first phase. They have asked the building owner to carry out detail assessment of the entire building, saying that retrofitting might be necessary.
Employees said the management has been pressing them to return to work despite engineers' suggestion not to work in the building.
Khanal, however, said they will resume service from Thursday, adding that employees have agreed to resume work.
