The telecom sector regulator has slapped a fine of Rs 500,000 on Ncell. It has also told the GSM operator to close all services being operating using SIP technology. Min Prasad Aryal, spokesperson of NTA, told Republica that it had issued a written direction to Ncell to close all its service operated using SIP technology either for call centers or individuals. "We have also fined Ncell Rs 500,000 as per the Telecommunication Act 1997 clause 47, sub-clause 2," he added. However, Ncell has said that it was studying the authority's action and that it would decide its next course of action very soon. "It appears that NTA has taken a different view. We will decide on our next course of action after careful consideration of the basis taken by the NTA, so that our customers continue benefitting from the enhancement of technology," Milan Sharma, corporate communication expert of Ncell, told Republica.
