Talking to media persons after his meeting with the president, Chairman Dahal said that the president was in favor of institutionalizing the achievements of Janaandolan II instead of grabbing power. [break]
"After meeting the president I am convinced that he does not have any intention to impose presidential rule in the country," he said, adding, "President does not have any intention to derail the ongoing peace process."
Chairman Dahal also said he assured the president that his party was not pushing for an immediate revolt. "It is just market gossip and UNMIN has done its analysis on the basis of that," he said, referring to the UNMIN chief´s report to the UN Security Council in New York. He also clarified that his party would go for revolt only if there was conspiracy not to conclude the peace process and not to write the constitution.
During his meeting with Dahal, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav had expressed concern over Landgren´s report that there was a possibility of presidential rule in the country and reiterated his commitment to institutionalizing the achievements of the historic Janaandolan II of April, 2006. He termed Landgren´s comment ´baseless´.
Landgren in her report to the Security Council said the Nepali people fear a possible Maoist revolt and presidential rule.
Earlier in the morning, President Dr Yadav had expressed similar concern to Speaker Nembang over UNMIN´s report. “I found the president worried as the report made by UNMIN chief Karin Landgren had dragged in the presidency,” Nembang told media persons.
The president had said that a person fighting to institutionalize the constitution and democratic norms and values cannot impose presidential rule.
