No irrigation in 800 thousand hectares of arable land

HETAUDA, March 2: At a time when the government has been focusing on modernizing agriculture, it is learnt that 800 thousand hectares of land is awaiting irrigation in the country.

HETAUDA, March 2: At a time when the government has been focusing on modernizing agriculture, it is learnt that 800 thousand hectares of land is awaiting irrigation in the country. 


Of 2.2 million hectares of arable land, only 1.4 million hectare is provided with irrigation. It is mentioned in the irrigation master plan 2075 prepared by the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation. 

The plan prepared by irrigation expert has further mentioned that Nepal was getting irrigation via underground water resources, well, canal and river.

Even the watershed is categorized by the master plan to solve the irrigation related problems. 


Concept of irrigation development is also forwarded in the master plan. Existing irrigation system needs strengthening with modern management and expansion of irrigation land, use of technology. There are five broader plans being implemented as per the master plan.  RSS
