KATHMANDU, Oct 22: The leader of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Devendra Poudel said that no election for the vacant post of speaker of House of Representatives will be held until and unless the case against former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara is settled down.
“The case is under the investigation following sexual harassment accusations against him, therefore, the election for the vacant post is not possible before the case is settled down,” argued Poudel addressing a program in the capital on Tuesday adding, “However, NCP is ready to hold the election according to constitutional provisions.”
China congratulated Speaker Mahara
He further added that his party would have no reservations against constitutional provision of electing speaker and deputy speaker from different parties.
On a different note, he accused the main opposition Nepali Congress of ignoring people’s mandate by alleging government of misusing two-third majority.
