Top leaders of UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) are scheduled to meet the president at 8 am, Thursday.
“The talks were heading in a positive direction till yesterday [Monday] evening. But the option of government under the sitting chief justice has closed after NC and UML said that they would not accept such a government,” said UDMF Coordinator Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar, who is also the deputy prime minister and home minister.
Gachchhadar said they will hold discussions on other possible candidates to head election government on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the president had expressed disappointment over the failure of the political parties to reach consensus.
“The president expressed strong disappointment over the failure of the parties to reach consensus. He has asked the parties to forge consensus keeping in view the political and constitutional crisis facing the country,” said NC leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat.
He said that parties will hold negotiations on Wednesday to forge consensus on the new prime ministerial candidate.
