Chief Secretary Dr Madhav Ghimire urged the authorities concerned to take necessary moves to resolve the power cuts after holding intensive discussions with the political parties.[break]
Discussions on whether or not the thermal plant can be installed by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) or by private sector should be decided through talks, added Ghimire.
It is not possible to construct the big hydel projects at a time when the Khimti Hydropower Project Company failed to establish the sub-station at Dhalkebar due to country´s transition, said Ghimire.
The Ministry of Energy and NEA are to be blamed for power cuts and energy crisis, he said in a meeting of monitoring sub-committee under the Legislative-Parliament Committee on Natural Resources.
Ghimire suggested that the thermal plants can be installed in Hetauda, Biratnagar or any other proper sites.
Ghimire stressed for constructing new projects, transmission lines and maintaining the old ones to address the rising electricity demand.
Other participants in the meeting said the load-shedding hour time was increased due to the lack of seriousness on the part of the Ministry and authorities concerned.
The meeting also decided to suggest prime minister, political parties and private sector for making necessary program to address the energy crisis and power cuts problem.
The lawmakers present in the meeting vented ire on the NEA and concerned ministry, saying that they were not bringing proper plans for the future.
