BANEPA, Oct 22: As many as 900 people affected by the April 25, 2015 Gorkha Earthquake have not availed of the grant for house construction.

They include those who do not have land-ownership certificate, who are living in the land owned by religious trusts, the landless squatters and those whose land has not been registered, according to the District Development Committee (DDC), Kavrepalanchok.

Planning Officer at the DDC Office, Dholakhnath Dhakal said no specific direction has been received regarding providing the reconstruction housing grant amount to those without the landownership certificate.

Especially the earthquake-affected people of Phalantey and Bhumlutaar areas of the Kavrepalanchok district do not have the land ownership certificates. Similarly, there is a problem regarding the land belonging to the religious trust and the landless squatters in Koshidekha and Simthali among other VDCs.

The District Reconstruction Authority had published the names of total 58 thousand 608 beneficiaries but has recommended the District Treasury office to release the amount to only 55 thousand 865.

So far, 57 thousand 865 earthquake-stricken people in the district are to be provided with Rs 50 thousand each in the first installment. No earthquake-affected people in the district have received the 100 per cent house reconstruction grants.

There are 57 VDCs and five municipalities in Kavrepalanchok district. RSS
