KATHMANDU, September 8: The National Human Rights Commission (NRHC) has urged all the stakeholders to help conduct the third phase of the local elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
Issuing a press statement Thursday, NHRC urged the government to maintain law and order to create fearless environment for the people to exercise their voting rights throughout the polling day. The third phase of the local election is scheduled for September 18.

NHRC also urged all the political parties to respect freedom of expression and maintain social harmony among various castes and creeds. The election body has also asked all concerned to avoid disrupting peaceful mass meetings organized by political parties, burning tires and staging torch rallies.
Separately, NHRC urged the Election Commission to ensure that the political parties to strictly abide by the election code of conduct and immediately take action against those involved in violating it.
Similarly, the NHRC also urged the poll observers to maintain impartiality, while carrying out their duties without siding with any political parties, NHRC said in the statement.
Among other things, NHRC also urged the media and social media users to help conduct the local elections in a free and fair manner without disseminating provocative messages.
