In a press statement, the commission said it is sending a high level mission to Janakpur on Tuesday "to explore the fact of the incident".
"Despite the recurring attention made by NHRC to the concerned authority and security officials including the Home Minister for lax peace and security situation, the activities of serial violence are continuing," the statement said. "This incident of killing has further proved the fragile security situation of Janakpur and surrounding areas."
NHRC has urged the government to identify the culprits of the incident and prosecute as per the law as soon as possible, and to guarantee the security of all of human rights defenders.
Meanwhile, South Asia Media Commission Nepal Chapter (SAMC-NEP) condemned the murder of Singh, said a press release issued by the commission here Monday.
"It is a cowardly, brutal and inhuman act that can be executed only by barbarians," it said.
SAMC-NEP said that murder of a professional female journalist has seriously disturbed it, adding the crime has vindicated that journalism has become the most dangerous profession in this country. It strongly demanded that culprits, regardless of their political affiliation or social status, be booked.
