Musicology
I was always obsessed with music from a very young age. I’ve been playing guitar since I was 10, singing came naturally to me. Music really took a turn for me in school when I was first introduced to Avril Lavigne. I was ten and fell madly in love with “Complicated.” It was then I realized I wanted to be a singer (smiles). Soon after, I started discovering other singers and was inspired by their performances. I love Colbie Cailet, Jason Miraz, Ciney Gurung, Jindabaad, and think Albatross are pretty cool, too.
“Na Badhana”
Don’t tie me down
It was a project, to start off with. But along the way, it sort of became an album. Working with Nhyoo Bajracharya has been a great learning curve and has been a major boost to my confidence. If I were to put it in a genre, the compilation is definitely pop. It’s an easy-listening album with a little bit of everything. There are shades from acoustic to blues- rock and the English song I wrote has a very Avril Lavigne feel to it (smiles). The title of the album “Na Badhana” is inspired by teenage years, and conflicts with controlling parents. There are times when you just want to be left alone, it’s about having space. There’s even a song of the same title that I absolutely adore.

Strumming her own tunes
It helps to pick up some kind of instrument; it makes you more independent, self sufficient. I tried learning the piano, but I never had much of a feel for it, so I moved on to guitar. As said before, I’ve been strumming since I was ten. I throw random chords together, and if it sounds good, I put words to it. I find writing melodies very easy, lyrics are a bit harder, and it all depends on mood. I feel more comfortable stringing words to melody, but it varies. And sometimes, they both come at once – which is always nice!
Videology
You can’t deny the impact music videos have on the recording industry. We humans are very visual animals, and a good video can do wonders to a song, provided it’s good to start with. Jindabaad’s Rewind is a fine example. The video registered massive hit on YouTube and also earned rave reviews from the media. It’s a prospect you can’t ignore. I’m thinking of making a video, but have to ask my father first (laughs). I do think it makes an important impact. After all, people watch TV and youtube.com.
I’m an attacker
As for my passion for football or love of singing, I can’t seriously decide between these two to save my life. I want to be in a football team. I play attack. And my wildest dream is to manage the Liverpool Football Team. Actually I’ve applied for a national team here in Nepal, hoping for a positive response.
Photography is my other passion, followed by cooking. And yes, I’m also into Thangka painting, have been doing it for the past two years. It’s difficult but I love it nonetheless.
Word of advice
Keep on going, don’t give up! I won’t say it’s tough but it is major hard work, it can get nerve-racking. Initially, I wanted to do everything in English, but being here in Nepali music industry, it made more sense to do songs in the national language. So I took up the challenge. I did find emoting in Nepali a little testing, but it was not impossible (smiles). I’m really thankful to Nhyoo Bajracharya’s patience and guidance. It was hard, yes; but at the end, I’m proud of the album and feel I can do anything.
In near future
I take away a lot of experience, respect for the recording industry from my first venture, and it has also fueled my desire to do more. I don’t know, I might come out with an EP of acoustic songs with Sunny Tuladhar of Jindabaad. And like I said, I want to play for a national football team as well (smiles), so definitely busy days are ahead.
