KATHMANDU, Dec 17: Bharat Shah, 36, of Tikapur Municipality-1 Durga Nagar, Kailali, who joined the Russian army three months ago, has been killed. The family received the news of his death through a friend who was working in the Russian army on Friday.


His father, mother and wife, who were in a state of shock after learning the news of his death, on the advice of relatives, Shah’s family performed the last rites at Daulatpur Ghat in Tikapur according to local tradition.


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian government have not formally informed the family about Bharat's death.

Mangal Shah, the brother of the deceased Shah, said, "We received the news of his death on Friday from a colleague working with him. As it was uncertain whether we would receive the body or not, we performed the last rites according to the tradition on Sunday.”


Shah, who worked in the Nepal Police for seven years, resigned from the police three years ago and went to Dubai. He used to work as a guard in Dubai. According to Mangal Shah, the salary was also good in Dubai. But he joined the Russian army three months ago.


Shah said that his colleague Rabin Thapa of Kanchanpur had sent the news that he had been shot dead in the border area of Russia on November 26. "It had been three weeks without a conversation with him, suddenly this news came," Mangal said.


The deceased is the second son of his family. His younger brother Mohan is in Malaysia and his elder brother Uttam is in Romania. Mangal said that the deceased Shah had a wife, a four-year-old son and a three-month-old daughter. Shah's family migrated to Tikapur from Bannigadi Jayagad Rural Municipality in Achham.
