Nepali NGO bags French Human Rights award

KATHMANDU, DEC 15: Voice of Concern, an NGO working on child rights sector, has bagged this year´s French Human Rights Award for its works in Nepal.



The award shared by five NGOs in different countries carries a purse of Rs 7.5 million, with each recipient getting Rs 1.5 million. World famous figures like Shirin Ebadi, winner of Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, writer Taslima Nasreen, Cuuban human rights defender Elizardo Sanchez have already received the award.



French ambassador to Nepal Gilles Henry Garrault said the National Advisory Commission on Human Rights, an independent body, selected the NGOs for their role in defending human rights.



According to the French envoy, Krishna Thapa, the NGO´s director, received the ward in France last week. The NGO is the first Nepali organization to get the prestigious human rights award.
