KATHMANDU, Sept 5: Nepal has registered victory in the third round of the ongoing 42th Chess Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan on Monday.
Nepal defeated US Virgin Islands and Swaziland in the men's and women's events respectively with similar 4-0 score line to add two points each in both events.
In the men's event Nepali player Kesabh Shrestha who is rated 2099th defeated 2205th rated James Mctigue in the 40th move while Sajin Maharjan overcame Anatoni Mongilo.
Similarly, Bhupendra Niraula beat 1952nd rated John Dempsey and Bimal Lal Shrestha registered his second victory of the tournament defeating David Conhoff in the 39th move to add another two points.
In the women's section, Shanta Thapa has earned her second win in Baku and added another two points beating Nikiwe Nxumalo in the 44th move. Nepal champion Sindira Joshi has produced her first victory as she overcame Nosimilo Mkhonto.
Nepal beats Malta in Olympiad
Sujana Lohani who was playing her first game in the Olympiad earned her first victory beating Temabuya Ngwenya while 1632nd rated Ashmita Adhikari defeated 1392nd rated Mthethwa Thobile.
Nepal will now face South Korea and Botswana in the men's and women's respectively in the fourth round of the Olympiad.
