Prof Dr Suman Thapa, chairman of the organizing committee, said that SAARC countries share similar problems related to eye aliments, which are increasing due to modern and unhealthy lifestyle. "Unless they are taken care in time, they can lead to blindness," he said.

Over 600 participants including doctors, experts, researchers and scientists from more than 24 countries will take part in the conference, said the organizers. Experts from the USA, the UK, China, Japan, Canada, Germany, Russia, and Singapore among others will present papers during the conference.

This is the third time Nepal is hosting the conference, which is held in every two years. It is being jointly organized by the SAARC Academy of Opthalmology and Nepal Opthalmic Society.
