KATHMANDU, July 20: Nepal is getting Rs 2.55 billion in grants from the United Nations Green Climate Fund (UNGCF) to distribute electric stoves to one million households in Terai.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the ministry has signed an agreement with the UNGCF for the purpose. In the first phase of the program, the government is distributing 500,000 units of electric stoves and installing 10,000 units of biogas production plants.
2,800 students to get induction stoves within a week
The Alternative Energy Promotion Center is the implementing agency of the UN-funded program, which will focus mainly on Terai households who are depending mainly on firewood for cooking. The program is expected to reduce the emission of 6.51 tons of carbon annually.
