Nepal sets formidable target of 291 runs for Zimbabwe in ICC ODI World Cup Qualifiers

KATHMANDU, June 18: In a thrilling encounter at the ICC ODI World Cup qualifiers, Nepal opted to bat first against Zimbabwe, setting an imposing target of 291 runs. Nepal's innings spanned 50 overs, during which they lost 8 wickets, amassing a total of 290 runs.


The individual performances in Nepal's innings were mixed.


Dipendra Singh Airee had a brief stint at the crease, scoring 6 runs off 7 balls before being dismissed. Gulshan Jha contributed 13 runs in 13 balls, including a four, but was caught out by Zimbabwean bowler Richard Ngarava. Bhim Sarki faced only one ball, caught by Ngarava without opening his account.

Arif Sheikh played a determined inning, scoring 10 runs off 11 balls, but fell victim to Ngarava's bowling, caught out by Ryan Burl. Kushal Malla showcased his prowess, smashing 41 runs off 42 balls, which included three sixes and two fours, before being dismissed by Zimbabwean bowler Tendai Chatara.


Rohit Paudel provided a valuable contribution with 31 runs off 29 balls, comprising five fours, before Nagrava claimed his wicket. Kushal Bhurtel displayed exceptional batting skills, accumulating a commendable 99 runs with 13 fours and two sixes in his 95-ball innings. Unfortunately, he narrowly missed out on a century as he was dismissed by Wellington Masakadza, falling just one run short.


Ashif Sheikh partnered with Bhurtel impressively, scoring 66 runs off 100 balls, including seven fours, before Masakadza sent him back to the pavilion.


The opening partnership between Bhurtel and Sheikh achieved a noteworthy milestone, establishing a record for Nepal. Their combined efforts have set a challenging target for Zimbabwe to chase in this crucial match.


As the game continues, all eyes will be on Zimbabwe as they strive to achieve the demanding target set by Nepal.
