KATHMANDU, March 24: The friendly match between Nepal and Malaysia scheduled for April 1 has been cancelled for now due to technical problems, said All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) on Friday.

Various sources have claimed that the match was cancelled as the A-Division outfits Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) and Ruslan Three Star Club (TSC) did not let their players leave for the friendly match as they are taking part in the big tournaments outside the valley. But, ANFA President Narendra Shrestha said that the game has been cancelled because of technical reasons.

ANFA spokesperson Sanjeev Mishra said that the match has been cancelled because there are no international tournaments and the friendly was said to be played within few days of the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.

Manang head coach Chiring Lopchan said that he is unaware of the fact that the club has released players or not. “I have no idea about this and it should be asked with the officials of the club, but there are big tournaments being played outside the valley. And, I don’t understand why the friendly should be played just after the match against Yemen.’’

Three Star General Secretary Sanjeev Shilpakar said he was also unaware that the friendly was cancelled. He also added that ANFA asked them to release the players for the match against Yemen.

Nepal will play against Yemen in its last group F match on Tuesday and has left for Qatar on Friday.
