Nepal and Sierra Leone establish diplomatic relations

KATHMANDU, June 30: Nepal and the Republic of Sierra Leone have established diplomatic relations. With this, the number of countries with which Nepal has diplomatic relations has now reached 171.

KATHMANDU, June 30: Nepal and the Republic of Sierra Leone have established diplomatic relations. With this, the number of countries with which Nepal has diplomatic relations has now reached 171.


Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations Amrit Bahadur Rai and Ambassador/Permanent Representative of the Republic of Sierra Leone to the United Nations Alie Kabba signed aJoint Communiqué to this effect in a brief ceremony held at the Permanent Mission Nepal to the United Nations, New York on Tuesday morning.

The two Ambassadors also signed a joint letter informing Secretary-General of the United Nations His Excellency Mr. António Guterres about the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries.


On the occasion, the two Ambassadors exchanged views on various matters of common interest to strengthen bilateral cooperation at national and multilateral settings particularly at UN forums for the mutual benefit of the two countries.


The Republic of Sierra Leone is a country located in the southwest coast of West Africa with an area of 71,740 sq. KM, bordering Liberia to the southeast, Guinea to the Northeast and Atlantic Ocean to the west. It joined the United Nations on 27 September 1961. 


Both Nepal and the Republic of Sierra Leone are members of the Group of 77 and China and Non-Aligned Movement.
