KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Monitoring Committee on Possible Impacts of the Global Financial Crisis held on Thursday has concluded that Nepal has not yet experienced any direct effect of the worldwide financial turmoil, but cautioned that the country needs to remain alert over possible adverse consequences in future. A government official present at the deliberations told myrepublica.com that the meeting held in-depth discussions on remittance income, the banking sector, exports and tourism --  four areas believed to be vulnerable to the deepening global crisis. "Based on data presented during the meeting, we concluded that there has not been any visible impact on the domestic economy as of now," said the official.

The government had formed the monitoring committee under Dr Pitambar Sharma, vice chairman of the National Planning Commission, in the wake of the global financial crisis which erupted following the burst of the US housing bubble. The committee is assigned to overview possible impact of the crisis on the domestic economy and suggest necessary measures to limit the damage.
