Nepal score 56 in 16 overs losing a wicket against Sri Lanka

The Nepali Men's U-19 team has scored 56 runs losing a wicket in 16 overs against Sri Lanka in the first game of the Men’s U-19 Asia Cup-2024 underway at Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday.

KATHMANDU, Nov 29: The Nepali Men's U-19 team has scored 56 runs without losing a wicket in 16 overs against Sri Lanka in the first game of the Men’s U-19 Asia Cup-2024 underway at Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday.


Opener Akash Tripathi has been dismissed after scoring 19 runs off 33 balls, including three fours. Currently Mayan Yadav has scored 24 runs in 49 balls, including two fours while Arjun Kumal has scored 8 runs off 14 balls.


Earlier, the Nepali team restricted the Sri Lankan Men’s U-19  team to 233 runs in the allotted 50 overs, claiming all the wickets.

In the ongoing match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE, Nepal won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first. Sri Lanka scored 233 runs in the allotted 50 overs, losing all wickets.


For Sri Lanka, Sharujan Shanmuganathan scored the highest with 62 runs off 99 balls including two fours. Lakwin Abesinghe scored 50 runs off 53 balls including two fours and one six.


For Nepal, Santosh Yadav took four crucial wickets, conceding just 45 runs in 10 overs. Similarly, Yuvraj Khatri took two wickets, while Hemant Dhami and Naren Saud claimed one wicket each. Two Sri Lankan batsmen were run out.


Nepal are scheduled to play their second match against Bangladesh on Sunday and the third match against Afghanistan on Tuesday.


Eight countries from Asia are participating in the tournament. Nepal are placed in Group ‘B’ alongside Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Group ‘A’ consists of India, Pakistan, Japan, and the UAE.


The Nepali XI playing against Sri Lanka include Hemant Dhami, Arjun Kumal, Aakash Tripathi, Uttam Magar, Mayan Yadav, Naren Saud, Unish Thakuri, Naren Bhatta, Santosh Yadav, Roshan Bishwakarma, and Yuvraj Khatri


Similarly, the Sri Lankan XI include Pulindu Perera, Dulnith Sigera, Sharujan Shanmuganathan, Vimath Dinsara, Lakvin Abeysinghe, Kavija Gamage, Viran Chamuditha, Vihas Thewmika, Praveen Maneesha, and Newton Ranjithkumar.
