KATHMANDU, July 2: National Education Consultancies Association (NECA) International Education Fair 2011 kicked off July 1 at the Direction Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC), United World Trade Centre (UWTC), Tripureshwor.

The event was inaugurated by Akriti Pandey, the SLC Topper of 2011.[break]

The fair is specially focusing on Plus Two (+2) graduates and those who want to pursue further education abroad. The major highlights of the fair are career counseling, subject counseling, college counseling, country-wise information, and scholarship seminar.

“The fair is proving to be pretty helpful. It isn’t so crowded, so we don’t have to push and pull to get information from any stall. It’s comfortable and easy to access information,” said Junu Shrestha, a +2 graduate who is trying to apply to Japan for further studies.

There will also be an entertainment section for the students at the fair. There will be tee-shirt painting, photo competition and screening of short movies related to education to help the students. The winners will be decided through a voting system and will be awarded with gift hampers.

Shiva Pandey, another graduate student, said, “It’s fun and isn’t like other fairs. All the competitions make it more interesting. I hope I do get information on graduate studies abroad but I’m not sure yet. But the fair is helping me make up my mind.”

There are colleges participating from Cyprus, India, Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia, India, Russia, and New Zealand along with the NECA members and a few national colleges.

“NECA maintains quality and excellence in the field of abroad education counseling, as the number of Nepali students aspiring to go abroad is increasing. It’s a student’s right to receive genuine counseling and true information on abroad education,” said Arun Lamichhane, President of NECA.

Sudeep Satyal from educationsansar.com, the event management team, said, “Unlike other fairs which are so-so, we provide just counseling on abroad studies, and nothing else. Students can go online and do their research but there are many cases where they will be greeted with something more than what they have been expecting. Here, we provide everything as it is.”

Ila Shrestha, the Director of Gulmohar Educare, opined “These fairs are a must. Consultancies gain their reputation from verbal advertisement. Here, they can come and see for themselves.”

Buddhi Prasad Regmi, Vice President of NECA, added humorously, “I hope the rain doesn’t stop students from coming.”

The fair will continue till Sunday, July 3. The timing is from 10 am to 6 pm.
