Executive member of International Federation of Basketball Associations (FIBA) Ching Man Wai Mabel inaugurated the program by handing over the ball to chief coach Dinesh Nakarmi. [break]
According to NeBA President Lama Tendi Sherpa, the association has been running the talent hunt for the last two years for SLC appeared students. This year, 150 short-listed students are called in Kathmandu while 35 in Pokhara, 25 in Chitwan and 47 in Dharan will participate in the program. Among them, 20-25 talented basketball enthusiasts will be chosen and provided with scholarship for +2 education.
"We´ll provide scholarships to potential basketball players in some renowned higher secondary schools of Kathmandu, where they can get good education and sharpen their playing skills," said Sherpa.
Sherpa handed over NeBA´s vision and proposal to Mabel about constructing the Central Basketball Covered Hall at Chapali, Kathmandu and Namche Bazar Covered Hall as well as Women´s Basketball Development in Nepal.
Mabel, addressing the program, said that she was happy to know about basketball activities in Nepal and vowed to support projects related to the youths. After the completion of the opening ceremony, Mabel said, "I´ll study these proposals with my colleagues in FIBA and finally decide how we can help Nepal," said Mabel.
Mabel is also chief of the FIBA Asia Women Commission.
