KATHMANDU, Nov 18: Police on Friday nabbed former chairman of ill-fated Nepal Development Bank (NDB) Amar Gurung, who was at large after embezzling Rs 360 million from the bank.

Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police nabbed Gurung from Maharajgunj, said Om Adhikari, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the Bureau. Police had issued arrest warrant against Gurung, among other 40 senior officials of NDB, after their fraudulent activities pushed the bank into bankruptcy. [break]

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) had sought action against Gurung under Banking Offence Act, NRB Act and Civil Code. Gurung was handed over to police for further investigation and actions on Friday itself.

NRB had sought actions against Gurung, among others, after their defiance to implement reforms as prescribed by NRB turned the NDB insolvent. NDB was subjected to liquidation about four years ago.
