The GSM operator has selected six teams each from four categories -- Games and Entertainment, Health, Tourism, and Utilities.Issuing a statement, Ncell said an independent panel of selectors in each category evaluated the app ideas based on pre-announced judgment criteria -- importance of problem the app aimed to solve, the app's business potential, its global scalability, and how the teams could articulate and present their ideas -- to select the 24 teams from among 150 teams submitting their minimum viable products (MVPs) on December 9.
Ancients of Mandala, Arcube Games, Flipped, Lishn, Unnamed (VR) and Up have been selected as finalists under Games and Entertainment category. Similarly, teams selected in Health category are Hamro Hospital, Mero Health, Mumma-Care, Naari, Skin Consult and Tele Medic. Likewise, six teams selected from Tourism category are Food Nepal, Nepali Coders/Arts & Crafts, PinPeaks, Thingsle, Trail It, and Travel Auctioneer. Similarly, 8 Byte/ Ghum Gham, Bulletin Board (Quiddity), Drop Me Here-my Cab, Nidaar, NTyles and Pangraz have been selected as finalists from Utilities category. The 24 teams will receive one-to-one mentorship on developing a business model, improving user interface and experience, and pitching their ideas, the statement added.
"There were some apps that could contribute tourism sector of the country in a big way," Sunil Sharma, officiating director of Nepal Tourism Board, a member of selection panel of Tourism category, was quoted in the statement.
On December 22, one best team in each category will win a cash prize of Rs 250,000 and a grand winner amongst them will win an additional cash prize of Rs 500,000, and an opportunity to participate in an international event in 2016, according to the statement.
