KATHMANDU, May 13: The Nepali Congress (NC) has said that it will refrain from demanding the resignation of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane if a parliamentary probe committee is formed to investigate Lamichhane’s alleged involvement in a cooperative fraud case.
Last Friday, CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli expressed his suspicion that the NC could seek Home Minister Lamichhane’s resignation after the formation of the parliamentary inquiry committee.
Formation of parliamentary probe committee is NC's bottom line
A Nepali Congress leader said that NC has assured Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal that no demand for Home Minister Lamichhane’s resignation will be made after the formation of the committee.
From their meetings with the PM, NC leaders have gathered that the PM wants to avoid a scenario where the home minister’s resignation is demanded but he refuses to resign following the formation of the parliamentary inquiry committee.
“We have told PM Dahal that we will not seek Lamichhane’s resignation following probe committee formation,” an NC leader said.
The NC has persistently called for a parliamentary inquiry into Home Minister Lamichhane’s alleged misappropriation of cooperatives’ funds.
