KATHMANDU, June 17: The main opposition Nepali Congress on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the government from various parts of the country and abroad, asking the government to effectively handle ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
In its memorandum, the NC slammed the government for its incompetence in dealing with COVID-19 pandemic. The party also expressed concern over growing corruption as the entire country is passing through health crisis triggered by coronavirus outbreak.
Chief Secretary at the party central office Krishna Prasad Poudel said that his party has presented various suggestions to the government regarding the effective handling of coronavirus. "Due to the government's poor response to the COVID-19, people are deeply frustrated. We urge the government to meet people's expectations," he said.

Similarly, all the 77 district working committees of the party submitted the special memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Chief District Officers while the Nepali Congress' Nepali Public Relations Committees abroad submitted the memo to the PM through the Nepali embassies in various countries, Poudel said.
In its memo, the party has drawn the attention of the Prime Minister toward the grave crisis triggered by COVID-19 pandemic. "We urge the government to stop the rapid diagnostic test (RDT) for coronavirus and expand the scope of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests across the country," the chief secretary of the party central office said.
The NC also urged the government to end the acute shortage of medical supplies including kits.
Expressing its serious concern over recent incidents of rape and deaths at quarantine facilities, the party urged the government to take action against those involved in rape cases. "We also urge the government to meet the standards while setting up quarantine facilities," the party said in the memo.
