KATHMANDU Nov 22: The main opposition party – Nepali Congress – is gearing up to pile pressure on the ruling parties for endorsement of the constitution amendment bill tabled in the parliament.

The NC Parliamentary Party meeting held today took the decision to call on the government to address the Tarai-Madhes agitation immediately by advancing the amendment bill.

In the meeting, decision was taken to exert pressure for the immediate passage of bills related to constitution amendment and post-quake reconstruction table at the parliament by NC led government, said lawmaker Bharat Khadka.

On the occasion, NC Acting President Ram Chandra Poudel briefed the meeting over the negotiations that took place between the ruling side and the Madhes-centric parties on Saturday.

The lawmakers attending the meeting decided to urge the ruling parties and the agitating side to be serious and exercise flexibility, and resolve the standoff through dialogue and agreement, citing the country was now facing a frightening prospect due to continued agitation in Tarai-Madhes.

The meeting also expressed grief over the death of two agitators in Saptari on Saturday night and the attack on ambulance with a patient inside and urged both the sides to exercise restraint, said lawmaker Jagadish Narsingh KC. RSS
