NC to decide on Sharma’s ‘exit policy’ proposal during constitutional amendment

KATHMANDU, Sep 2: The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has reached consensus to hold discussions on the “exit policy” proposed by General Secretary Biswa Prakash Sharma during the constitutional amendment process.


On the final day of the CWC meeting of the NC that began on August 7 and was adjourned several times due to Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba and his close allies, there was an agreement that the debate on General Secretary Sharma’s ‘exit policy’ will take place during the constitutional amendment, and necessary decisions will be made at that time.

During the Mahasamiti meeting, which took place from February 19 to 22, General Secretary Sharma had proposed an ‘exit policy’ for senior leaders, recommending one term for president, two terms for Prime Minister, three terms for ministers, and four terms for lawmakers. Then, the Mahasamiti meeting endorsed the proposal and forwarded it to the CWC meeting for further discussion and a final decision.


The party was experiencing heated debates due to the proposals made by General Secretary Sharma. Following the decision, the debate within the NC has been settled for the time being.
