KATHMANDU, Jan 9: Chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist) and former Prime Minister, Madhav Kumar Nepal, has accused former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba of attempting to build an airport in Dadeldhura for securing a ‘commission’.

During a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on International Relations and Tourism under the House of Representatives (HoR) held at Singha Durbar on Thursday, Chairman Nepal accused NC President Deuba of trying to waste scarce resources of the country. The attempt to build more airports including the one in Dadeldhura despite knowing that the Bhairahawa and Pokhara international airports are not operational would harm the country.

Chairman Nepal also accused the attempt to build an airport in Dadeldhura, while airports in neighboring districts like Baitadi and Doti remain non-operational, of being linked to ‘commission-taking’ in the contract. He also pointed out that there is no need for airports in Udayapur and Dadeldhura.

Nepal also said that the only purpose of bringing an airport to his district was to tell the people that he brought it, with no other objective. He added that the decision-makers should take accountability if the airports fail to operate.
