KATHMANDU, May 15: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal was unable to table a copy of President Ram Chandra Paudel's address to the joint sitting of both houses of the federal parliament and thank President Poudel due to the protest of the main opposition party.

In the joint sitting of both the Houses of federal parliament on Tuesday, President Paudel had presented the annual policy and programme of the government for the fiscal year 2081/82 BS. The prime minister had to abort his plan to table the copy of Paudel’s address to the joint session of both the houses following the protest of Nepali Congress (NC) lawmakers shortly after the President read the government’s policy and program.

NC has put forth its demand for the formation of a probe committee on the issue connected to the involvement of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire was also scheduled to read out the letter related to the certification of the bill received from the Office of the President and the appointment of ministers in the meeting. The speaker was also scheduled to nominate the members to preside over the meeting as per rule 10 of the House of Representatives Regulations, 2079 BS. Speaker Ghimire was also forced to abort the scheduled plan.

The next meeting of the HoR will take place at 11.00 am on May 16.

Meanwhile, the meeting of the National Assembly was also adjourned on Tuesday without entering the agenda following protests by lawmakers from the main opposition.

The meeting was scheduled to present a motion of thanks to the president. The next meeting of the National Assembly will be held at 1.15 pm on Thursday.
